Application Notes - Version 1.2.0 (Release Date 5/18/2010)
Note: Now includes in-app pop-up security or command error alerts, alert tracking on the Alerts tab, and vehicle image utilities. Push notification feature is in development currently.
Note: Use the "menu" button of your BlackBerry to access new features such as changing your vehicle name or adding an image. You can also use the menu button to accept the Terms and Conditions, to clear Alerts, or to close the app.
Note: For GSM handsets, you may need to add APN information to the TC/IP settings of the phone in order to connect with the SmartStart system. Contact our support team at techs@viper.com for assistance.
Note: All issues below for versions 1.0 and 1.1.0 have been resolved. You should always update your app to the newest version. To update, first delete the old app. One newer handsets, highlight the app icon on your home screen or in the Download folder, then press the phone’s menu button and select "Delete". The phone should ask you to restart for the changes to be effective. If it doesn’t, you will have to manually restart (power cycle) the phone before the deletion is executed completely. On older handsets, go to the Options menu, select Advanced Options, then Applications. Highlight the SmartStart app from the list and use the menu button to delete the app. The phone must be restarted for the deletion to take effect. After the old app has been deleted, use your browser to download the newest app from the link page www.viper.com/blackberry/app. Make sure you select the correct app for your handset, or the screen display size will not match.
Application Notes - Version 1.1.0 (Release Date 4/12/2010)
Note: App may open in demo mode after having previously been activated. If this happens, go to the Settings tab and verify log-in information is still present and unchanged; press "SAVE" and return to home screen. App should return to active mode.
Note: Personalization of vehicle information is limited to changing the name at this time.
Note: Security alerts or command errors may appear more than once per event on the Alerts tab.
Note: Loss of connectivity while using app may cause handset to display "Stream closed" or "Tunnel failure". Normally you can click through these and continue to use the app. If you are not able to do so, close the app and check phone for connection status for data. You must be able to access a public internet page such as www.viper.com using the phone's browser in order to use SmartStart.
Application Notes - Version 1.0 (Release Date 3/8/2010)
Note: Make sure the desired vehicle is highlighted in dark on the Cars tab. If you navigate away from the Cars tab by doing anything other than pushing "enter" while the vehicle is highlighted (dark), it deselects the vehicle and you won't be able to send it a command until you go back to the Cars tab and select it. The correct way to exit the Cars tab is by pressing "enter". The vehicle is selected and the app will navigate to the home screen automatically.
Note: The initial release of Viper SmartStart for BlackBerry does not allow you to change your log-in information once you have entered it. If you need to change your log-in information after it is entered, the application must be deleted and loaded again. Typically this also requires restarting the phone.
Note: The password and passcode utilities on the Settings tab, personalization of your vehicle name on the Cars tab, and SmartStart messaging on the Alerts tab are not operational for this release. Please update to version 1.1.0 to add these features.

For Customers Outside of the United States
SmartStart coverage is currently available in the US only. Coverage in Canada is scheduled to be launched by 5/01/2010. Although the app itself can be used on BlackBerry smartphones anywhere data connectivity is available, the SmartStart module that is installed in the vehicle has to be provisioned to work in the GSM/GPRS network for each region or country.
The SmartStart team is working hard on getting the system online in other countries. Please keep an eye on our website for any announcements on product availability for other countries as well as expanded features and new SmartStart applications for other devices.
